Dovercourt's Instructional Focus
Our Instructional Focus at Dovercourt School is to improve Literacy for all students through culture, community, and citizenship.
In addition to individual classroom programs, Dovercourt staff are engaging in a coordinated school-wide effort to teach reading across all subject areas. At Dovercourt we want to see all students demonstrate measurable growth in the comprehension of written text every year.
One of these efforts is the Home Reading Program. We have streamlined the classroom home reading programs to create a school-wide program. Students are asked to read and record 15 to 30 minutes per night, depending on their age and ability.
Programs and Organization
Dovercourt School provides regular K-6 programming, Chinese_Bilingual_K-6_programming, and a District Literacy Program for Division 2 students. We have a specialist teacher providing music instruction to all students, a strong library program, and teacher assistants providing extra support for students requiring it.
School Philosophy
At Dovercourt School we create a positive school climate where everyone feels safe and respected. We provide a caring atmosphere where students, staff, and parents work together as "Partners in Learning."
We hold high expectations and provide educational opportunities for all children to achieve success. We believe in sharing our culture with one another. We believe students deserve every opportunity to achieve to the best of their abilities and develop a positive sense of self-worth.
